For those participating in our Big Game Hunting 2025 event, you will want to prepare the following:

  • Print five (5) copies of our observation Map – Big Game Hunting 2025 map
You will use a copy of this map for each Tx cycle at the different power levels.
  • Be familiar with the map and be prepared to identify your map grid number location for the day.
  • Have your transceiver ready with the following frequencies:
    • N6ICW – 147.195 MHz (+) 123 Hz (we will use the repeater for coordinating and reporting)
    • 146.565 MHz (we will use this simplex frequency for the hunting)
  • Have your antennas ready and identified:
    • directional
    • omni-directional (vertical)
      • Type 1 – HT or lower than roofline
      • Type 2 – at the roofline
      • Type 3 – well above the roofline
  • Be prepared to listen and document all of the signal reports. Remember, this is a cooperative event and you should all be working together to hunt the game.
  • When reporting your signal report,
    • for directional antennas provide the relative compass direction from you to the source. Use the compass printed on the map for reference. Your phone probably has a compass app than can help you.
    • for vertical antennas, use the following standard signal reporting
      • Q5 – perfectly readable (good)
      • Q4 – readable without much difficulty (fair)
      • Q3 – readable with considerable difficulty (weak)
      • Q2 – barely readable with missing words (very weak)
      • Q1 – unreadable (faint)
